It is important for hospitality settings to be equipped with life-saving defibrillators. Sudden Cardiac Arrest strikes anyone, at any time or place. 20% of all Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) incidents occur in public.

Having a readily available defibrillator increases the chance of survival. If a shock is delivered with 3-5 minutes the chance of survival increases from 6% to 74%.

Is there a way to find out which hospitality venues own a defibrillator?

Companies can register their defibrillator(s) with The National Defibrillator Network, called  The Circuit. This network connects all registered defibrillators to the NHS ambulance services across the UK so in the crucial moments after a cardiac arrest, it can be accessed quickly to help save lives.

We urge hospitality professionals to register their defibrillators with this service.

How effective are public defibrillators?

A defibrillator and CPR is the only way to treat  an SCA. When a shock is delivered within the first 3-5 minutes of the emergency the chance of survival increases from 6% to 74%. With 20% of all Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) incidents happening in public, it is crucial to have defibrillators in public areas. To ensure the hospitality industry is a heart-safe environment, we recommend that every venue should be equipped with this  life-saving device.

If my employees have no defibrillator training can they still provide life-saving treatment?

Yes. All of our defibrillators can be used by the trained or untrained responder. Once the unit is opened or turned on, it talks you through the rescue process step by step. Some units may also have visual as well as verbal prompts.

Are defibrillators required in hospitality?

There is no national requirement stating hospitality settings should be equipped with defibrillators. It is important to prepare for any life-threatening emergencies. Sudden Cardiac Arrest can affect anyone, at any time, and at any place. If there is a defibrillator readily available then the chances of survival will increase greatly.
