Defibrillator maintenance is key in ensuring that your life-saving device is ready for use at all times. Recent technological advancements in the defibrillator industry have made this aspect of owning a defibrillator easier than ever.
Connected technology defibrillators are able to connect to bespoke program management software immediately after turning the device on. They enable the user to continually monitor the device remotely whilst also keeping an eye on the defibrillators accessories, such as the electrode pads and battery, and monitor the self-test results which check over each and every part of the device and ensure it is ready for action at a moment's notice.
Developed for use with the LIFEPAK CR2 AED range, Physio-Control's LIFELINKcentral makes AED management as simple as it could be. This allows the user to check whether the device is in a state of readiness and effectively manage the device's peripherals. This software will also alert you if any device on the network is potentially compromised and not ready for use. You can also locate the connected defibrillators on a map and even send sudden cardiac arrest event data wirelessly to the emergency responders en-route to the scene.
ZOLL have equipped their latest innovation, the AED 3 with WiFi connectivity, enabling the device to connect with PlusTrac AED Program Management. Similarly to LIFELINKcentral, this connects the user directly the device and helps maintain the device's ready status. After the completion of the daily or weekly self-tests, the results will automatically be uploaded to PlusTrac where the user can see if their device is fully functional or not. If the reporting to PlusTrac fails, users will be notified immediately, allowing users to make and required manual maintenance checks to ensure your AED is ready.
As time progresses, we expect more new AED innovations to boast similar features, making owning a defibrillator simpler than ever.
If your AED is not ready for use, it cannot be used during a cardiac emergency. For every minute that the casualty does not receive treatment, their survival chance decreases by 10%. However, if treatment is delivered within 3 - 5 minutes of them collapsing, their survival chance significantly increases from 6% to 74%.
Treatment is reliant on the defibrillator being in a ready-for-use condition and have in-date accessories that assist in the administration of treatment. However, it can be time-consuming checking manually, but owning a connected defibrillator, the program management systems do all of this for you and will alert you in due time if anything requires attention or has failed.
