How to Switch Languages on Your Primedic Defibrillator

Primedic is trusted across the world for high-quality defibrillators and emergency equipment. Developed in Germany, Primedic defibrillators can be used in several settings, including hospitals, public spaces and hotels.

One standout feature of the Primedic HeartSave Y (Semi Automatic) and YA (Fully Automatic) defibrillators is the multi-language capability, which allows responders to switch languages easily. This is a crucial step in the recovery process for Sudden Cardiac Arrest, which can become fatal within minutes.

Defibrillation and CPR must happen as quickly as possible and with little delay. Knowing how to switch languages on Primedic defibrillators helps responders act quickly, improving the chances of survival during Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Why Multi-Language Capabilities Matter

1. Public safety

The faster a defibrillator is used in an emergency, the better the outcome. Everyone should have access to lifesaving equipment, regardless of age, gender or ethnicity. Sudden Cardiac Arrest can happen unexpectedly, so clear and understandable instructions are crucial for speeding up the recovery process.

Hotels, restaurants and public spaces all regularly welcome international visitors. Multi-language capabilities help ensure that life-saving CPR and defibrillation can happen without hesitation, regardless of language barriers.

2. Inclusivity

Sudden Cardiac Arrest does not discriminate; even healthy adults and children can experience Sudden Cardiac Arrest without any experiencing symptoms.

Early use of CPR and defibrillation within the first 3-5 minutes of collapse increases the survival rate from 6% to 74%. Without access to immediate treatment, Sudden Cardiac Arrest can be fatal.

While it’s not a legal requirement in the UK, it is highly encouraged for public spaces such as sports centres, hotels, and restaurants to install defibrillators. Providing easy access to life-saving equipment can significantly reduce fatalities from Sudden Cardiac Arrest and ensure that anyone, regardless of language or training, can respond effectively in an emergency.

3. Accessibility for all

Being able to switch languages on a defibrillator ensures technology is accessible to a broader range of people.

Public spaces such as libraries, sports halls and restaurants gather large groups, increasing the chances of medical emergencies occurring. In these critical moments, any bystander must react quickly without delay.

The multilingual capabilities of the Primedic HeartSave Y & YA defibrillators allow the responder to act promptly, saving precious seconds.

How to Switch Languages on Your Primedic Defibrillator

How to find the language button

Once the cover of the defibrillator is opened, you should see the following buttons (from left to right):

  • On/Off switch: When the back-light is green, the device is ready for operation.
  • Language button: For multiple language options.
  • Shock button: With red back-light, which flashes when the defibrillator is ready to shock.
  • Child button: When the back-light is green, child mode is activated. When it is not illuminated, the device is in adult mode.

Refer to the visual guide in the Primedic user guide for detailed instructions on locating the language button and any other features of the HeartSave Y & YA defibrillators.

Switching it on

After completing the steps for defibrillator set-up, the defibrillator will give the voice prompt, “Please press the blinking buttons.” To complete the setup, press the language button during operation until the desired language is selected. The language will then be announced.

Follow the remaining steps for delivering defibrillation, stopping only when guided by the device prompts and providing care until emergency services arrive. To ensure you’re fully prepared to act during an emergency, learning how to switch languages is crucial. This feature on the Primedic HeartSave Y (Semi-Automatic) and YA (Fully Automatic) defibrillators allows responders to provide immediate assistance - regardless of the language spoken - increasing survival rates.
