Our Social Commitments

defibshop is committed to adding benefit to our local community and work in partnership with other organisations to enhance the wider community and area of company coverage.

Our commitment to our community locally, regionally and nationally sees us working on different projects, always with the community at the heart of what we do.

Local Community

  • As an employer we try, where possible, to recruit from the local community.  Whilst this is not always possible, 75% of our staff live within a 15 minute radius. Our recruitment process starts with the local base through banners outside our office, through to utilising local community forums.
  • We run monthly Defibrillator Familiarisation courses with our partners Hamilton Davies Trust.  This offers FOC courses to those in the local area so, in the event of a cardiac emergency, they would be able to help.
  • We have been involved in the install of 13 defibrillators around the local area, making sure the correct unit is purchased, adequate storage is utilised and training given where required.
  • We volunteer every Tuesday morning at the local Trussell Trust foodbank where we give our time to help the regular volunteers with their work. This not only helps the local area, but gives our staff a different perspective on life leading to greater compassion and understanding.
  • We aim to use local suppliers where possible to support the local community.

Wider Community (Gtr Manchester)

  • Twice a year we run a free event at the Trafford Centre in Manchester where, working in partnership with North West Ambulance Service, we encourage the public to perform CPR alongside a community first responder, Paramedic or member of our trained team showing them how easy it is, and also show them a training defibrillator.
  • We work closely with North West Ambulance Service to support installation of defibrillators across the region.

UK Community (Company coverage area)

  • We ensure we pay our suppliers, large or small, promptly for services and goods supplied to us.
  • We have a freely available resource centre for anyone to access on our website with troubleshooting articles, advice pieces and general knowledge around SCA and AED’s.
  • We donate a pre-loved defibrillator each month to worthy causes across the UK.
  • All of our first aid training is delivered by self-employed local trainers, this reduces travel and gives work back to their local community.
  • We work with many of the UK ambulance service areas to provide defibrillators to local communities.

Moving Forward in 2023

  • We are working on an optional charity donation button at checkout stage on our website to support local, regional and national charities.
  • We are committed to, and working on, formalising the measuring of our carbon footprint and reduction plans to ensure our impact on the environment (both locally and nationally) and that of our suppliers is minimal – in partnership with Positive Planet to structure and formalise our findings.

Other Initiatives

  • We run a free expiry reminder service where we register the expiry dates of any electrode pads or batteries used with a defibrillator, regardless of whether the unit came from us.  This generates an email 3, 2 and 1 months prior to expiry to remind the AED Guardian that their consumables need replacing, giving them good time to ensure the unit remains operational in the event of a cardiac emergency. This is especially important for community public access defibrillators (cPAD)
  • We have worked in partnership with the British Heart Foundation to launch and promote The Circuit – the UK’s national database for defibrillators. Connected directly to 999 emergency services this allows operators to see the nearest available rescue ready defibrillator. In the event of a cardiac emergency the caller can be directed to the nearest unit so reducing the time before treatment is given.  Treatment given within 3-5 minutes increases survival chance from 6-74%. Time is of the essence, category 1 ambulance response target time is 7 minutes, so this information could be the difference between life and death.
