How to remove an object from your eye
To safely remove an object from your eye, follow these steps:
- Do not rub the eye as this could cause further irritation
- Wash your hands
- Tilt the head so the affected eye is facing down to the side.
- Hold the eye open gently or use an eyecup with either saline solution or clean, lukewarm water to flush the eye for around 15 mins.
- If you can see the object in the corner of your eye or inside of the lid, carefully remove it using a cotton swab.
- Seek emergency advice if the object is embedded into the iris, or you experience sudden vision changes.
