Introducing the Primedic HeartSave myPAD: The Smallest, Lightest Defibrillator

The Primedic brand is renowned worldwide for its reliable, high-quality Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), made in Germany since 1973. These are accessible for both trained responders and untrained bystanders, prioritising user-friendly design and intuitive technology. Recently, the range has expanded to include the new Primedic HeartSave myPAD, presenting one of the smallest, lightest, and most affordable defibrillators on the market.

This blog introduces you to the new model with everything you need to know about key features, maintaining the HeartSave myPAD, and what makes it different from other defibrillators.

Features and Benefits of the new Primedic HeartSave myPAD

Designed for the everyday user, the HeartSave myPAD ensures a faster, more effective response wherever and whenever a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs, with its:

  • Portable, compact shape – a 15x15cm profile and a weight of just 1.1kg

  • LCD touchscreen display – for quick, precise use

  • Rechargeable/non-rechargeable battery options – offering increased longevity and cost savings

  • Child button – removing the need for separate paediatric pads

  • CPR feedback – with a built-in metronome for guided use

  • Multilingualism – with up to six language options for different responder nationalities

  • Core & Connect specifications – with Connect offering smartphone connectivity and remote management.

  • Durable design – rated IP66, indicating protection against dust and water jets from any direction.

Maintaining the Primedic HeartSave myPAD Defibrillator

Primedic’s new HeartSave myPAD sets a new standard for defibrillator maintenance, with a sustainable design that offers increased longevity compared to standard defibrillators. The optional 12-year rechargeable battery enables the defibrillator to be recharged, removing the need to order a replacement every 5 years. If this is preferred, the standard non-rechargeable battery is available. The HeartSave myPAD Adult/Paediatric electrode pads also offer a five-year shelf life, reducing the frequency of replacements and lowering maintenance costs.

Along with the child button, these pads bring further savings, negating the need for separate paediatric pads, with the button lowering the energy output for child patients. With more durable, cost-effective consumables, the Primedic HeartSave myPAD makes defibrillator maintenance even more straightforward.

Like most defibrillators, the Primedic HeartSave myPAD performs automated self-testing on a daily basis, assessing the battery capacity, electrode pad status and checking the internal circuitry. This ensures optimal performance while helping to detect any issues that require urgent attention.

To effectively maintain the Primedic HeartSave AED:

  • Replace the electrode pads after each use (or within five years if unused)

  • Replace non-rechargeable batteries before expiry

  • Keep rechargeable batteries topped up and regularly check the battery health

  • Keep exterior surfaces such as the casing and touchscreen clean to aid use and maintain a good condition

How the Primedic HeartSave myPAD differs from other Primedic AEDs

The new Primedic HeartSave myPAD is different from its predecessors in the HeartSave range. It’s 70% smaller and 60% lighter than previous models, with a more lightweight design that makes it well-suited to both home and public use.

Unlike former HeartSave AEDs, the myPAD also features an LCD touchscreen, along with six language options (as opposed to the standard two). Connectivity also gets an upgrade with the HeartSave myPAD Connect specification, offering intelligent device configuration via App management. This enables Guardians to manage the AED remotely and check its status to ensure it is ready to deploy in an emergency.

Like the HeartSave Y, the myPAD is available with semi and fully-automatic options depending on user preference. Semi-automatic models require the responder to press a button to administer a shock, while fully-automatic models do this without user intervention, where a shockable heart rhythm is detected.
