Data and Demo Cards: A Walk Through the Optional Extras Available with Your Defibtech AED

The Defibtech range of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) offers reliability, accessibility, and innovative technology. They are trusted across a variety of environments, ranging from professional and clinical to general public settings. With a streamlined design and user-friendly features, Defibtech AEDs are suitable for those of all levels of experience in a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) emergency.

Accessories like data and demo cards allow owners to get the most out of their Defibtech device, while ensuring emergency preparedness. This blog focuses on some of the optional accessories available with the Defibtech Lifeline range.

Defibtech Data Cards

In a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), every second counts. Initiating defibrillation as quickly as possible increases the chances of survival, along with prompt handover to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on arrival. Defibtech’s data cards help ensure a smoother process, enabling the defibrillator to store limited ECG data from an SCA response when inserted. This helps EMS personnel assess the casualty’s condition, determine the most appropriate course of action, and potentially identify underlying causes during further analysis.

At defibshop, we offer the Defibtech Medium Data card, which offers up to 6 hours of ECG data storage. This is compatible with all Defibtech Lifeline AEDs, and is inserted into a small slot on the bottom of your device. When inserted, an event is created on the card each time your device is used. Post-treatment, this is handed to the EMS and a new card inserted for the next emergency. Investing in a Defibtech data card is one way to ensure maximum emergency preparedness within your organisation.

Defibtech Demo Cards

If you are new to using a Defibtech defibrillator, a Defibtech demo card provides a guided introduction to its operation. These are compatible with the Defibtech Lifeline View AED, and are inserted into the bottom of the device, similar to a data card. Once inserted, the demo card is recognised automatically, and the Defibtech Lifeline View defibrillator switches into demo mode. This enables you to view a full walk-through of your device and how it operates in an emergency.

To use a demo card, first unplug the electrode pads from your AED. Press the centre soft key button, after which the screen displays a ‘Pads missing’ message. Press the button once more to load the demonstration, which prompts the device to state ‘demo mode’. The demonstration guides users through key steps, including:

  • Pad placement and casualty preparation
  • Two response scenarios: one with a shockable heart rhythm, the other without
  • CPR instruction, with the option to follow hands-only CPR or CPR with rescue breaths

If an actual emergency occurs during the demonstration, pressing the ‘On/Off’ button switches the Defibtech Lifeline View into live AED mode instantly, without removing the card.

The Defibtech Demo Card is designed for those looking to improve their confidence using an AED in an emergency. For further training, discover our range of First Aid and Refresher Courses available, delivered with our accredited partner Imperative Training.

Other Defibtech Accessories Available at defibshop

Maintaining your Defibtech Lifeline is an important part of ownership, which is why we offer a range of accessories to help. Defibtech Lifeline AED pads require replacing after each use, or every two years if unused, while batteries come with a four-year expiry. Replacing these components promptly is vital to ensure your Defibtech Lifeline AED is ready for a cardiac emergency.

If your organisation requires regular access to training, we offer a range of Defibtech training accessories to support responder preparedness.

The Defibtech Lifeline Trainer Unit is designed exclusively for training, resembling all the features of the Defibtech Lifeline AED to simulate a realistic emergency. This is accompanied by the Training Remote, enabling the user to choose from a selection of training scenarios. More Information

What is a Defibtech data card and what is it used for?

A Defibtech data card is a small technical component inserted into Defibtech Lifeline AEDs. It allows the device to store a limited amount of ECG data, which provides a summary of care to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on arrival. Data cards are also used to help determine the cause of an SCA when analysed further by medical professionals.

What are Defibtech demo cards and how do they work?

Defibtech demo cards are small cards compatible for use with Defibtech Lifeline View AEDs for training purposes. Once inserted, this prompts the device to begin ‘demo mode’, giving the user a visual run-through of how it works in an emergency. The demonstration covers both outcomes following analysis, providing instructions for when a shockable heart rhythm is detected, and advice in the event it is not.

What accessories do I need for my Defibtech Lifeline AED?

Some accessories - such as replacement pads or batteries - are essential for your Defibtech Lifeline AED. Since both components expire after a set date (or single use for pads), ordering a replacement is fundamental to maintaining your defibrillator. Other accessories such as storage cases, data, and demo cards are optional and depend on your preferences. These are all designed to enhance the user experience and effectiveness of your Defibtech AED, and help ensure everyone is prepared to use it.
