Is it crucial to have a defibrillator in a school?
Sudden Cardiac Attacks (SCA) can happen to anyone at any age, and a vital component of school safety is having an AED on hand. Having a defibrillator available for students and staff makes your school a heart-safe environment.
Everything you need to establish a heart-safe environment is included in the Heartstart FRx Schools Package. For more information on how to purchase a defibrillator for your school, get in touch with us, and our team will be happy to talk you through the Philips Heartstart FRx Schools Package.
Can the Philips Heartstart FRx School Package be used on adults and children?
Yes, the Philips Heartstart FRx is ideal for a school setting as it provides treatment for both staff and students. When you purchase the Philips Heartstart FRx School Package, we’ll provide you with a child/infant key at no extra cost; this signals to the device that you are treating a minor with the unit. The Philips Heartstart FRx offers CPR coaching and a preconnected set of SMART Pads for use on adults and children.
How is the Heartstart FRx model different from other Philips defibrillators?
The Philips Heartstart FRx defibrillator comes with clear, step-by-step audio instructions that include CPR guidance, making it easy for life-saving responders to use. It also has an audible metronome, making it suitable for adults and children. The Heartstart FRx is one of the most robust defibrillators, with an IP55 rating. The rugged, light, and dependable defibrillator can tolerate rigorous handling and a wide range of temperatures.
How do you use the Philips Heartstart FRx defibrillator when treating children?
When providing an infant or child with life-saving treatment under 55 pounds or eight years old, you must insert the Infant or Child Key. Once the key is inserted and you have turned on the Philips Heartstart FRx, follow the instructions. Whether you insert the infant or child key before or after turning on the device, it does not matter. However, the key must be inserted before placing the AED pads on the patient.
The Heartstart FRx automatically reduces the defibrillation energy from the adult dosage of 150 Joules to 50 Joules when the Infant/Child Key is inserted, and an "Infant/Child Mode" announcement will begin. The device will then provide optional infant/child CPR Coaching.
The FRx will proclaim "Adult Mode" if the Infant/Child Key is taken out while in use. Any shocks given will have adult energy, and any available CPR instruction will be for adult CPR.
