Physio Control, now part of Stryker is a world leader in the development of defibrillators, monitors and other emergency medical equipment.

The defibrillators within the Lifepak range from Physio Control allow responders of all training levels to feel confident when delivering treatment an emergency.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) does not discriminate, striking anyone at any time or placeA shock from a defibrillator and effective CPR is the only definitive treatment for SCA. Treatment must be delivered within the first 3-5 minutes of collapse for the best chance of survival.

Why do electrode pads need replacing?

Electrode pads have a shelf life of 1-5 years depending on what make and model your defibrillator is.

The gel covering the pads are likely to be ineffective in adhering to the skin to analyse the heart and deliver a shock if one is required beyond the expiration date.

Why does a defibrillator need a replacement battery?

Batteries have a shelf life of 2-7 years depending on what make and model your defibrillator is.

Batteries enable the unit to carry out regular self-tests to ensure your defibrillator remains in working order. Batteries also provide the power needed to deliver a potentially life-saving shock to a person in cardiac arrest.

Does Physio-Control manufacture AED pads for children/infants?

Yes, paediatric pads are available for the older Physio Control units.  The newer Lifepak CR2 units are equipped with a paediatric button. When pressed, this automatically reduces the joule output to a level suitable for a child. This eliminates the need to change pads, saving time in an emergency.

Are there training accessories manufactured by Physio-Control?

Yes, defibshop stock Physio-Control training accessories. The Lifepak CR2 Training unit from Physio Control is designed to fully simulate the functions and features of a clinical Lifepak CR2. The Lifepak CR2 training unit provides learners with a realistic training experience, tailored to the unit. Students learn how the device responds during a real cardiac emergency at each stage of the rescue process, and know exactly what to expect from the defibrillator and what prompts it provides in an emergency.

Why is the Physio-Control Lifepak 500 AED Non-Rechargeable Lithium Battery no longer available?

The Lifepak 500 is now obsolete. Following the discontinuation of the device in 2007,  Stryker announced the Physio-Control LifePak 500 battery was to be discontinued in  June 2020. The parts and accessories to go with this device are no longer available. Physio-Control recommends a replacement of devices that are more than 8 years old. At defibshop, we suggest an upgrade to the CR2 USB Semi model.

Are different Physio-Control accessories better for different environments?

Accessories are device specific. Certain defibrillators are more equipped for certain environments and their batteries and electrode pads reflect this.
