Saving Lives in Hale: How Denise and the Hale Civic Society Brought 16 Defibrillators to the Community
Through fundraising, training—and a generous donation
It all began in 2021 with tragedy: Denise lost her husband to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) at home. Determined to turn grief into action, she launched a mission to equip her community against future emergencies through fundraising, awareness campaigns, and lifesaving installations. Since then, 16 public defibrillators have been installed across Hale, each registered on The Circuit for real-time access by emergency services—a vital link in the chain of survival.

Denise’s mission and our support
We recognised Denise’s dedication and partnered with Hale Civic Society to donate a defibrillator and support continued community effort. This gesture underscores our pledge to donate at least one AED per month across every UK region
Why this matters: Heart Attack vs. SCA
A heart attack involves blocked arteries and causes severe pain but does not instantly cause unconsciousness.
In contrast, SCA is an electrical malfunction that disrupts the heart’s ability to circulate blood, causing arrest within seconds. Survival chances drop by 10% every minute without CPR and an AED—making swift action critical
A real-life rescue: daughter, defibrillator, and community training
Recently, a local mother suffered SCA while out in the village. Her daughter—trained by Denise’s community sessions—began CPR immediately and ran to a publicly accessible defibrillator (located at Tesco) to retrieve it before emergency services arrived. Their quick response saved her mother’s life
All 16 units in Hale have been registered on The Circuit, allowing first responders and the public to locate defibrillators quickly, giving victims the best chance when every second counts.

What’s next? Denise’s plan to expand and educate
Denise has no plans to stop at 16—she’s fundraising for more defibrillators and installing outdoor heated cabinets for year-round accessibility. Coupled with continued CPR and AED training events, her work aims to make Hale heartsafe
Defibshop remains committed to supporting Denise with supplies, technical guidance, and advocacy—committed not just to donating devices but empowering local heroes to make a real difference.
Denise’s story is proof that community, education, and generous support can transform loss into life‑saving action. From heartbreak came hope—16 defibrillators and community trainers now stand ready to save lives in Hale.
If you’re thinking about applying for a defibrillator donation in your area, we are taking applications to help equip more communities under their initiative of giving at least one defib per UK region each month
