De La Salle High School

defibshop are thrilled to have had the opportunity to visit De La Salle High School in St Helens, and donate a lifesaving defibrillator to protect the students, staff and visitors at the secondary school.

To around 1200 pupils, and 140 staff, the school is where most of their day is spent. With Sudden Cardiac Arrest a serious concern for people of all ages, a defibrillator on site in the right location can mean the difference between life and death.

While De La Salle already has a defibrillator on site as part of the 2023 roll out by the government, the school wanted to take a proactive step to install an AED near the playing field outdoors, reducing the distance needed to travel should a pupil or member of staff collapse on the field.

Business Support Manager at De La Salle, Liam Canning told defibshop: “We recently received news that some of our young people have been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a serious heart condition that places children at risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

“A further AED covering the physical education areas of the school provides vital reassurance to families and significantly improves the safety of our entire school community.”

Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest currently affects over 100,000 people in the UK each year, and does not discriminate based on age. Currently less than 1 in 10 people who suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital survive.

With immediate CPR and access to a defibrillator within 3 to 5 minutes, survival rates can be as high as 74% for a cardiac arrest.

defibshop were more than happy to support De La Salle and donated a Mediana A15 defibrillator, furthering our mission to make the UK a heart safe place to live, learn and work where nobody dies from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
