Cadishead Primary School

Cadishead Primary School

The reason for my visit was to donate the school a new defibrillator. Whilst they do have a unit, they needed consumables and these have just been removed from support by the manufacturer due to the age of the unit so they were unable to get hold of any, so putting the school community at risk. They did not receive one in the Government roll-out as they are classed as an Academy and we wanted to help ensure that the next generation are covered in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), but also ensure the staff and any visitors are safe.

Mrs Watson did an excellent job of explaining why the school was so delighted to receive the unit, and the children were very engaged, explaining what they needed to do should such an event arise. Whilst they are not yet learning CPR through the school curriculum (this is for secondary school pupils) having the unit around and knowing what it does, can only break down any barriers to fear and normalise their presence.

Thanksfully SCA amongst children is low, but it does happen. We sincerely hope they will never have to use this on either a child or an adult, but we are comforted knowing that they are covered should such an event occur.
