Training Manikin Resource Centre

Training manikins, also referred to as first aid or CPR dummies, are an essential part of Basic Life Support (BLS) training. They offer hands-on CPR experience in a safe, practical training environment, allowing everyone to practice and develop life-saving skills. Knowing how to perform CPR is equally as important as using a defibrillator, with the right combination and quality of delivery increasing the chances of survival in a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).

Our Training Manikins resource centre tells you everything you need to know about first aid manikins, and how to use them effectively for high-quality training sessions. We’ll explore the different models available at defibshop, along with useful accessories to enhance your experience further.

From enhancing safety in workplaces, to improving awareness in schools and public venues, CPR manikins ensure regular access to invaluable training for those who need it. Training Manikin FAQs

Frequently asked questions about CPR training manikins.

What is a training manikin?

A training manikin is a realistic anatomically designed device used to simulate a casualty in Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). It enables responders to practise delivering high-quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in a safe training environment. With a robust design, training manikins are designed to withstand hundreds of thousands of chest compressions, enabling multiple training sessions on demand.

Who are CPR manikins designed for?

Training manikins are designed for anyone wanting to improve their confidence performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Their lifelike anatomy and ease of use make them a valuable educational tool in schools, colleges, and workplaces. Paired with a defibrillator trainer unit, this enables responders to practice and simulate the full process of emergency response for maximum preparedness.

How do training manikins resemble a casualty in SCA?

First aid training manikins are anatomically designed to provide a realistic training experience, closely resembling the human torso. This enables learners to practice key stages of the resuscitation process, including opening the airways, delivering rescue breaths, and applying training pads when using a defibrillator training unit

What maintenance is required for first aid manikins?

First aid manikins require relatively little maintenance, making them straightforward to manage. The disposable lungs need replacing after each use to ensure the manikin’s airways continue to work realistically, otherwise, they have few moving parts. Regular cleaning is recommended to remove bacteria and maintain good hygiene, especially after practising rescue breaths. Face shields are included with some training manikins to help maintain hygiene.

What other items do I need for my first aid training manikin?

Training manikins require few accessories to be able to provide quality training. Replacement disposable lungs are required if you want to ensure a realistic, educational experience during each use. External manikin adapters are also available as an option; these are metal strips applied under training pads to simulate the flow of the electric current. Most of our training manikins come with a carry bag/mat for added convenience when conducting a training session off-site.
