Schools

To some people it may seem odd that we are promoting defibrillators for schools?

Most people associate heart problems and cardiac arrest with older people, people who are maybe overweight or unfit.

That makes sense of course but we absolutely can’t ignore the younger generation when it comes to the perils of cardiac problems.

Did you know that 12 young people a week loose their lives to sudden cardiac arrest according to official statistics published by the government.

Unfortunately 80% of those young people that die have had no symptoms.

We would only know there was an underlying problem if the individuals had attended some form of cardiac screening.

The reality is that this screening just doesn't happen. But the fact remains that young people are dying every single day from cardiac arrest.

If screening isn't going to happen then the next best thing is to be prepared for the worst case scenario of one of your students collapsing with cardiac arrest.

That means having a defibrillator available at your school and by having as many people trained as possible in CPR.

It's as simple as that so apply TODAY for our grant scheme and ensure your school is as prepared as possible.

Students who have experienced sudden cardiac arrest in school often have underlying, undiagnosed cardiac conditions such as:

Cardiomyopathy

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM),

Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)

Restrictive Cardiomyopathy (RCM)

Myocarditis

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

Ion Channelopathies

Wolff (Wolfe) Parkinson White Syndrome (WPW)

Coronary Artery Anomalies (CAAs)

Marfan Syndrome

Endocardial Fibroelastosis (EFE)

Tachycardia

Kawasaki Disease

Increasing the availability of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in schools increases the chance of survival for students and others who experience cardiac arrest during a school function.

Sudden cardiac arrest strikes people of all ages and fitness levels, usually without warning.

Medical experts believe many children could be saved if an automated external defibrillator (AED) is used within minutes of a collapse. However, there is currently no national system in place in the UK to ensure AED’s are present and in working order in schools

An American Heart Association study published in 2008 shows that for every 111 schools, on average there is likely to be one cardiac arrest on a school premises each year, with over 22,000 Primary schools and over 5,000 Secondary schools in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland it’s easy to work out that’s a lot of potential cardiac arrests! And of a lot of lives that could be saved.

That’s why we have teamed up with two global giants Laerdal, dedicated to helping save lives with products for CPR training and the Philips, one of the worlds leading defibrillator manufacturers to launch our FREE AED’s for schools campaign. Learn more….
