Family pays tribute to schoolgirl, 15

Lily Webster, 15The family and friends of 15 year-old schoolgirl Lily Webster, who died suddenly after a trampoline lesson on Monday, has paid tribute to their "wonderful daughter".

The tragedy occurred on Monday afternoon whilst students of Stowmarket High School were attending a PE lesson at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre.

Head teacher Keith Penn said Lily had finished a trampoline routine and got down but then started feeling unwell and "deteriorated very rapidly". He added that the school was shocked and saddened, and that "all our thoughts and prayers are with her family and close friends. Popular, active, bright and with a very wide circle of friends, Lily will be desperately missed by students and staff and all those who knew her".

Mid Suffolk District Council, owners of the leisure centre, commented that they had notified the HSE and were waiting for further information on who would be conducting an investigation into the incident.

It is not clear why Lily collapsed but she was in a critical condition when the paramedics arrived. A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said ""Ambulance crews, the doctor and the critical care team from the air ambulance worked extensively to treat and stabilise the girl but following everyone's best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene".

Lily's family said her death was "a terrible pain for us all to bear. Lily was a wonderful daughter and much-loved sister, niece, granddaughter, and friend to many. We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and the response of our local community".
