Otoscopes

An otoscope is a medical device which is used to look into people’s ears to help screen for any illnesses that might be present during regular medical checkups.

They are used to investigate ear symptoms, such as ear infections, and can potentially give a view of the ear canal and the tympanic membrane (ear drum). The most common types of otoscopes have a light source and a simple low-power magnifying lens.

The cone shaped attachment at the end is called an ear speculum. In a ‘pneumatic’ otoscope model this can produce a small puff of air that vibrates the ear drum as another test and evaluation of the patient’s ear.

Riester’s otoscope boasts consistent light output over the entire battery life which is 50 hours lifetime with conventional AA batteries, whilst the LED illumination of 5500k for pure white light ensures true tissue colour.

Ophthalmoscope

In 1851 the German physicist and physiologist Hermann von Helmholtz invented the Ophthalmoscope, an instrument that looks inside the eye.

Helmholtz devised the instrument by using reflectant glass and a concave lens, enabling physicians to illuminate the retina and observe it at the same time. This allowed them to detect and investigate many complaints of the eye including glaucoma, tumours and detached retinas.

Modern ophthalmoscopes use lenses to allow clear visualization of the structures of the eye at any depth. The tool uses a light and mirror with single aperture, combined with a dial switch to rotate through the lenses of varying strengths.

Riester ophthalmoscope is a revolutionary, bright white LED illumination device made for accurate diagnosis for eye examinations offering almost unlimited bulb life.
