info_defibtech Defibtech Company History

Gintaras Vaisnys and Glenn Laub, college friends, both graduates of Yale University decided to create a public access defibrillator after they were introduced to one by a salesman.

“It was a very clunky-looking device,” Vaisnys said. “And we looked at it and said, ‘Why does this thing cost $4,000? (£2500) It will never get adopted by the public that way.’ And we realized it was a unique opportunity.”

The partners’ insight: They had the precise combination of medical knowledge and product development experience to seize the opportunity.

That was back in 1999 and the company shipped it’s first AED in 2002

  • Over 50,000 of the Defibtech AED’s have been sold worldwide since its introduction in 2000, including big blue chip companies such as Coca-Cola, Air France, United Nations, JJB, Renault, Marriot Hotels, Chicago Bulls, New York Times, Google, Paramount Pictures and McLaren Formula One Racing Team.
  • The Lifeline AUTO and VIEW have both just been launched by Defibtech in 2010 and offer the customer added benefits to the Lifeline AED, with the VIEW being a revolutionary new AED offering visual assistance via a full colour video screen.
  • The Lifeline AED was proven to be the easiest to use AED on the market in a study by the University of Illinois, where it was tested against the other 4 leading defibrillator manufacturers and came out top in terms of speed and ease to deliver a successful shock.
